History or background of award

Māori students are currently under represented in student exchange participation. These scholarships were introduced in 2010, for an initial period of two years, to encourage greater numbers of Māori students to participate in an exchange with an international exchange partner institution.

Purpose of Award

In order for Māori students to participate in international exchanges, the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Māori) will grant scholarships to eligible students who have been approved for exchange to approved exchange partner institutions, and who meet the requirements of the selection panel.

Required Documents and References:

  • Personal statement outlining your goals and study plans and indicating how you would demonstrate a capacity for leadership and responsibility, as well as how the exchange will contribute to your development as a Maori student
  • Endorsement from your whakapapa that the applicant is of New Zealand Maori descent
